Chapter 2 - Entrepreneur

As an engineer in JP Morgan, I have been experimenting with different ways to apply advanced technology to reduce finance risk in the global bond market. Last year, Max and I explored the application of big data and machine-learning to bond research work at JP Morgan and created tools to predict market changes and notify clients when to reduce market risk.

We both setup standing desk so we can stand up and discuss problem more freely.

With six working colleagues, I started a Fintech business project to build a personal lending and finance management platform. Our plan was to build on risk management tools for consumer level lending or investment level portfolio analysis.

Though we had the technical knowledge to execute this vision, our lack of management and finance skills led to the company’s demise after nearly two years. When I look back at the experience, I realized that a commitment to ideals wasn’t sufficient. I needed to diversify my skillset beyond technology to develop a deeper understanding of finance, strategy, and marketing.
